Abstract

Resumo: Este artigo tem por objetivo fazer uma anáçise sintética do que há de comum entre os sistemas literários do Cone Sul e outros sistemas, no que diz respeito a características próprias e interseções/apropriações/ transformações relacionadas a encontros culturais mediados por traduções interlinguísticas e interculturais. Seu ponto de partida será delinear a relação histórica entre Literatura Comparada e tradução, para depois considerer os aspectos compartilhados dos sistemas do Cone Sul e de outros lugares, dedicando atenção especial à questão das línguas como fator de relevância para a circulação literária e cultural.

Abstract: This article aims to provide a concise examination of the commonalities between literary systems in the Southern Cone and other systems, as regards inherent characteristics and intersections/appropriations/transformations related to cultural encounters mediated by intercultural and interlinguistic translations. It will begin by outlining the historical relationship between Comparative Literature and translation, and will then consider the shared aspects of the systems of the Southern Cone and other places, paying particular attention to the issue of languages as a factor of relevance for literary and cultural circulation.

José Luís Jobim, Universidade Federal Fluminense/ Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

José Luís Jobim is Full Professor of Literature at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brazil, and former President of the Brazilian Comparative Literature Association. His recent publications in books and journals about literary and cultural circulation include: “The Geopolitics of Comparing and Representing the Other” (2021); “Literatura Comparada e Literatura Brasileira” (2020); “Literary and Cultural Circulation” (2018); “Le dialogue Europe-Brésil dans l´oeuvre de Machado de Assis” (2016, with Olinda Kleiman and M. E. Chaves de Mello); “Literatura e cultura: do nacional ao transnacional” (2013); “Literary and Cultural Transfers and Exchanges: From National to Transnational Blocks” (2009); “From Europe to Latin America” (2016, with João Cezar de Castro Rocha); “Literary and Cultural Circulation: Machado de Assis and Théodule-Armand Ribot” (2015). He has been Visiting Peofessor at the Universidad de la Republica (Uruguay), member of the Board of Advisors and seminar leader at the Institute for World Literature (Harvard), Professor of the Chaire des Amériques at the Université de Rennes 2 and will be a Lemann Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign (spring 2022).
